Taking just a 20-minute walk in the great outdoors each day could be enough to significantly improve the wellbeing of many older people, new research has revealed.
According to a new study published by researchers at Yale School of Medicine, simply keeping active can considerably increase an individual's ability to stave off mobility issues as they get older.
The research assessed the impact of taking moderate amounts of daily exercise on more than 1,600 men and women aged between 70 and 89, who had previously led a sedentary lifestyle.
Thomas Gill, professor of geriatric medicine and chair of the measurement committee, commented: "Maintaining independence for older adults is both a public health and a clinical priority, and modifying lifestyle is an important approach to maintaining independence."
Older people who find it difficult to maintain their mobility due to a lack of breath might like to consider investing in portable oxygen equipment.
