UK emissions cuts 'are missing targets'

The UK needs to cut its carbon emissions by two to three per cent a year, but this target is not being met, something which may encourage people to invest in pure oxygen equipment.

A report from the Environmental Audit Committee has highlighted a shortfall in the country's delivery of carbon emission reductions and warned that even if these goals were met, it would not be enough to have a significant impact globally.

The paper urges the government to do more to improve the air quality for those who require home oxygen equipment and advises that greater pressure be put on other nations to do the same.

According to Tim Yeo, chair of the committee, a clear signal needs to be sent to the developing world that a coordinated global approach is in everyone's interests.

"The UK's efforts to tackle climate change could be rendered meaningless if global leaders fail to reach a deal to reverse the growth of emissions by 2020," he added.

A recent report by the Carbon Disclosure Project suggested that the carbon reduction targets set by the UK's biggest companies are too modest to make any significant impact on the country's overall efforts.
