Sleep apnoea patient relies on oxygen therapy

One sleep apnoea sufferer said that she cannot live without her oxygen pump and takes it everywhere with her.

Christine Lake told the Daily Telegraph that she has to use the oxygen therapy otherwise she feels tired and gets headaches.

She added: "The longest I've stopped breathing has been a minute. It's frightening because you wonder how much damage you're doing to your brain."

The source added that more research is being carried out into the disorder and what can be done to help patients. However, people can use oxygen therapy to help stop the halts in breathing.

Ms Lake said that it is an "awful and frightening condition" adding that her daughter once woke her when she had stopped breathing for "quite a while".

Recent research from the University School of Medicine in Seoul, South Korea has also shown that sleep apnoea patients have decreased gray matter concentrations in certain areas of the brain.ADNFCR-2960-ID-19624573-ADNFCR Bookmark and Share Subscribe to the News RSS feed
