Should portable oxygen users cut down on soft drinks?

People using portable oxygen to help them cope with asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) may need to consider cutting down on the amount of soft drinks they consume.
This is because a new study has shown a link between enjoying large amounts of these beverages daily puts people at a higher risk of developing such illnesses.
A study led by Dr Zumin Shi of the University of Adelaide and published in the journal Respirology found 13.3 per cent of the 16,907 participants to a telephone survey with asthma and 15.6 per cent of those with COPD consume more than half a litre of soft drink per day.
The poll was conducted in South Australia and also found around ten per cent of adults knock back over half a litre of these beverages on a daily basis.
"Our study emphasises the importance of healthy eating and drinking in the prevention of chronic diseases like asthma and COPD," Dr Zumin stated.
People with COPD should also try to keep as fit as possible, it was recently advised by consultant nurse in respiratory medicine in Salford June Roberts in an interview with the BBC.
