Pure oxygen 'improves quality of life for COPD patients'

Those who suffer from chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD) can improve their quality of life if they invest in a pure oxygen canister and breathe oxygen-enriched air, it has been claimed.

New York Daily News blogger Karen Barrow said that while many people may find the idea of carrying an oxygen canister around with them unappealing, they can bring huge benefits and make them feel better.

Oxygen deficiency in COPD patients can cause significant damage to the body and oxygen from a can helps to minimise this and allow patients to live as normal a life as possible.

"That extra oxygen is just what your body needs to prevent the damage caused by oxygen deficiency. When used regularly, supplemental oxygen therapy has been shown to improve both the quality and length of life for those who suffer from severe COPD," Ms Barrow wrote.

Dr Norman Edelman, chief medical officer of the American Lung Association and a professor of medicine at Stony Brook University, told everydayhealth.com that oxygen in a can is one of the best options for COPD sufferers.
