Pure oxygen 'can benefit people with altitude sickness'

Those planning on climbing a mountain or travelling to other high-altitude locations should invest in an oxygen canister to take with them in case they come down with altitude sickness.

According to Medical News Today, ascending too rapidly can see people feel nauseous, suffer from headaches and feel generally unwell as the environment takes its toll on their wellbeing.

There are several options available which can alleviate the symptoms of altitude sickness, with breathing oxygen-enriched air one of the most effective.

"Giving pure oxygen to a person with severe breathing problems caused by altitude sickness can help. Oxygen is commonly provided by physicians at mountain resorts," the news provider stated.

Nepal's top politicians recently took oxygen canisters with them to the top of Mount Everest, where they staged a cabinet meeting to highlight the effects global warming is having on the earth.

Medical teams travelling with the politicians said that the presence of oxygen canisters meant their lives were never in danger.
