Portable oxygen 'would freshen up professional fights'

Introducing widespread use of portable oxygen would be beneficial for the world of professional fighting, it has been suggested.

According to a post on moviematics.com, oxygen equipment has the potential to make bouts more exciting - which could make the sport more popular and bolster viewing figures.

The source noted: "Allowing breathing oxygen in corners during fights would lead to having fresher, more active fighters for a longer period of time."

Debates on the use of portable oxygen have come to the fore among the mixed martial arts community after the substance was used by Strikeforce competitors KJ Noons and King Mo Lawal before contests.

The post added oxygen use is widely utilised in American football, as many players on the sidelines breathe in the substance to help them recover from knocks sustained through tough tackling.

Portable oxygen was recently used by Derby County to help their striker Tomasz Cywka recover from an injury he picked up in a match against Cardiff City.
