Portable oxygen to benefit female long-distance runners?

Female long-distance runners may wish to buy oxygen to help them achieve their optimal performance.

This is because the Minnesota Daily has claimed endurance racers reach a point where a lack of oxygen means they begin to suffer from tiredness - and this problem is exacerbated in women.

The source noted: "There is a point in any athletic event that oxygen demand surpasses oxygen availability and that's when competitors encounter problems like light headedness and muscle fatigue."

It added this is worse for women as they tend to have a lower overall oxygen intake opportunity than their male counterparts.

Rob Johnson, a team physician and marathon runner, said this oxygen debt can result in muscles experiencing lactate accumulation, which can affect the functionality of the performer.

Abc4news.com recently reported competitors in the Pink Series half marathon, which is being held to raise awareness for breast cancer, will have the chance to rejuvenate themselves with oxygen equipment after the race.
