Portable oxygen gives COPD patients 'freedom to travel'

People suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) may find that investing in a portable oxygen canister will give them the freedom to go about their daily lives, it has been suggested.

The Mesquite Local News states that the devices can "give patients the freedom to travel, shop, and even spend time doing fun activities like visiting local casinos for up to three hours at a time".

With a portable oxygen canister the time a COPD patient spends away from home will only be limited by its battery life, the publication adds.

Furthermore, breathing oxygen-enriched air can help those suffering from COPD to enjoy an undisturbed night's sleep, as their breathing will not be interrupted, it goes on to suggest.

In the March issue of American Family Physician, Dr Ann Evenson of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, advised COPD patients who breathe oxygen-enriched air will see their symptoms improved.
