Oxygen treatment 'very successful in relieving breathing difficulties'

Those suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) may find it useful to invest in a portable oxygen canister, as it has been suggested oxygen therapy can be "very successful" in relieving breathing difficulties.

Self Empower magazine states that until 2002, patients who needed oxygen treatment would require hospitalisation or face masks with noisy regulators in the home. However, portable oxygen canisters have now revolutionised the therapy.

"In practical terms this innovative technology means freedom. This physical freedom is defined as increased mobility. This fact, together with the vehicle power adaptor, means that instead of being housebound, patients can now travel unrestricted and live near-normal lives," the publication explains.

It goes on to suggest that portable oxygen canisters are also approved by all major airline companies, meaning that COPD patients are able to travel abroad with their equipment.

The magazine says that these devices can improve patients' quality of life, as well as their long-term outlook with regards to their condition.

COPD sufferer Helene Horowitz recently explained that using portable canisters to administer oxygen-enriched air makes breathing a much easier process.
