Oxygen treatment 'offers hope to Australian football player'

Australian rules football player and captain of the St Kilda Football Club Nick Riewoldt is currently undergoing oxygen treatment in the hope of speeding up his recovery from injury, according to reports.

The Herald Sun states that the sports star is hoping to slice at least one week off his anticipated 12-week recovery period.

But Mr Riewoldt says he thinks that undergoing the therapy will have longer-term benefits.

"If it heals that much stronger earlier on, I think long-term it will be a lot stronger and I'll be a lot better off because hamstrings can be fickle," he explains.

The footballer advises that the experience of breathing oxygen-enriched air is something which is very similar to scuba diving – an activity he is already familiar with.

Physiotherapist Sammy Margo recently told CNN that David Beckham could be undergoing oxygen therapy as part of his treatment to his snapped Achilles tendon.
