Oxygen treatment 'helps man recover from smoke inhalation'

Breathing oxygen-enriched air has helped one man to recover from the effects of inhaling smoke when a fire broke out in his home.

The blaze started accidentally at the victim's house in Rustington, near Littlehampton in West Sussex, on Sunday (March 14th) when the kitchen caught fire, the Littlehampton Gazette reports.

While the fire had been successfully put out by the time crews arrive, the resident of the property had to be given oxygen treatment by paramedics to counterbalance the effects of mild smoke inhalation.

Firefighters in Wigan were recently able to treat an 18-month-old child who was suffering from a convulsion by administering her with oxygen-enriched air, the Wigan Evening Post reported.

The girl made a speedy recovery and crew commander Simon Connor said that her mother seemed to be particularly pleased with the way that the crew had responded to the problem so quickly.

"Her mother came back that night to say thanks," he said.
