Oxygen treatment has 'many health benefits'

Oxygen equipment can be used to heal a range of injuries, it has been claimed.

According to Craig Storck of the Mercy medical Centre in Sioux City, oxygen treatment can aid the recovery of chronic, non-healing wounds, the Sioux City Journal reports.

The industry figure noted diabetes can cause a number of previously un-healable disorders, such as lower extremity arterial disease and pressure ulcers.

However, he argued: "Research shows that hyperbaric oxygen treatments can be beneficial for the treatment to those wounds."

Mr Storck explained the technique has been around for hundreds of years, but the revelation it can be used to heal wounds has only emerged in the last 15 years or so.

The method increases blood-carrying capacity and is delivered to all tissues, which improves the body's response to infection, he added.

This idea was also recently supported by Dan Buckner, chief executive officer of Heritage Medical Centre, who noted the therapy has progressed since it was initially used to treat divers with the bends.
