Oxygen treatment 'forms part of cancer therapy'

Breathing oxygen-enriched air is becoming one of the alternative forms of treatment for those undergoing cancer therapy, it has been revealed.

After being diagnosed with the condition, cancer patient Leigh Dargis began to receive courses of oxygen therapy, as well as therapeutic massage, as part of her treatment, TCPalm.com reports.

According to the publication, Ms Dargis is just one of a growing number of people who are turning to alternative therapies and holistic remedies to supplement traditional treatments.

Dr Sarah Rausch, director of integrative medicine for the Moffitt Cancer Centre in Tampa, Florida, says: "Do I believe people who say they did these treatments and now their cancer is gone? Yeah, sure."

Ms Dargis is now in remission and says she believes her determination, coupled with using complementary therapy correctly, has helped her survive the disease.

Ann Evenson of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, recently recommended in the March issue of American Family Physician that breathing oxygen-enriched air is an effective treatment for those suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
