Oxygen therapy 'very beneficial' to Superbike racers

Oxygen therapy can be used to help quicken the recovery process for injured Superbike racers, it has been suggested.

Writing for All About Bikes, J C Current noted oxygen equipment can be useful for most sportsmen but claimed it is especially advisable for motorbike riders.

The reporter observed: "It is a very beneficial procedure for any athlete, but more so for a racer who needs to get back into action to save his or her ride."

He explained the treatment sees highly-concentrated oxygen speedily delivered to damaged areas of the body and the pressures involved change the behaviour of the substance by dissolving it into plasma and thus accelerating the cellular respiration process.

British Superbike racer James Ellison has been able to cut his injury spell from months to weeks through the method, the journalist added.

In a recent article for the Washington Post, Dan Steinberg claimed oxygen therapy is also a popular treatment technique in another sport - American football - as use of the procedure for injuries is widespread in the National Football League.
