Oxygen therapy to help brain injury treatment?

New research is underway in the US to ascertain whether oxygen therapy can help patients recover from traumatic brain injuries.
Tulsa World reports the Oklahoma State University's Center for Aerospace and Hyperbaric Medicine in Tulsa is looking at how hyperbaric oxygen therapy can stimulate damaged brain tissue.
It is hoped the research will help servicemen and women who have suffered injuries in conflict and the results appear to be favourable, with oxygen equipment helping to boost IQ and improve sleeping patterns among a small sample of war veterans.
Director of research development at the centre LaDonna Lacey was quoted by the news source as saying she is excited by the potential of the study.
"Wouldn't it be wonderful if we had a treatment to help people with traumatic brain injuries get it fixed?" she remarked.
Sleep expert Dr Robert Rosenberg recently noted portable oxygen can help people who are having difficulty getting an uninterrupted night's sleep, the AZ Daily Sun reported.
