Oxygen therapy 'saves man's leg'

Oxygen therapy has played a part in ensuring a British man can still walk.

Chris Patterson injured his leg while travelling around Latin America, the Independent reports.

The 40-something suffered an ankle snap when his foot hit a rock after he attempted to jump from a cliff into a river in southern Mexico.

He was taken to hospital and underwent operations to remove the gangrene, but all to no avail.

However, fellow backpackers recommended oxygen treatment, which Mr Patterson received at a facility in the port city of Veracruz.

The news provider noted: "Patterson had two sessions of two hours a day, for five days. It saved his leg."

He returned to the UK where experts advised an amputation below his knee, which meant the Brit was still able to walk and ride his bike.

Craig Storck, of the Mercy Medical Centre in Sioux City, recently stated oxygen equipment can be used to help non-healing wounds recover more efficiently.
