Oxygen therapy 'improves headaches and sleep disturbances'

Those suffering from ailments such as headaches and sleep disturbances might be wise to undergo oxygen treatment, as a study has shown the therapy to improve the effects of these conditions significantly.

Undertaken by the International Hyperbaric Medical Foundation, the research found people who reported sleep disturbances and headaches saw their symptoms improve by up to four times after breathing oxygen-enriched air.

Similarly, Dr Paul Harch, president of the foundation, advised improvements can also be seen in patients who have previously suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder.

A 15-point IQ increase and a reduction in depression levels were noted in patients who underwent oxygen treatment after suffering from brain injury.

Lori Palermo, writing for Everyday Health, recently advised oxygen therapy can help to increase survival rates in those suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder.

Additionally, she said it can be useful for those who do not need constant oxygen, but may enjoy walking or other forms of physical activity.
