Oxygen therapy 'cures nasty hangovers'

Those who have woken up on a Sunday morning to find they are suffering from the effects of excessive alcohol consumption the night before may find that breathing oxygen-enriched air could rid them of their aches and pains.

While traditional remedies such as over the counter pain relief, water and even a good fry-up are usually employed to get rid of a hangover, one blog has suggested oxygen can also be a worthwhile option.

Recovery Connection explains: "The theory is that the increased oxygen flow resulting from oxygen therapy improves the metabolic rate, and thus increases the speed at which toxins are broken down."

The site advises that those with easy access to portable oxygen canisters - such as scuba divers, medical staff and military pilots - state that the treatment can reduce the symptoms of hangovers.

Lynne Gordon, writing for the Alex Ram blog, recently noted that opting for oxygen therapy after going out and drinking six vodka shots and five martinis eradicated any signs of a hangover the next morning.
