Oxygen therapy 'can relieve migraines'

Individuals who suffer from migraines may find oxygen therapy can ease their pain.

Researchers from the Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney discovered the method can effectively benefit people who experience cluster headaches.

The investigation, which comprised nine small studies and included 201 participants, showed oxygen equipment to be a safe choice.

It included reviews of both hyperbaric and normobaric treatment.

Findings from the research have been published in the journal The Cochrane Library, which is a publication of The Cochrane Collaboration.

Michael Bennett, of the diving and hyperbaric medicine department at the institute and the lead author of the analysis, said: "We believe that hyperbaric oxygen is also a reasonable measure for migraineurs who have not responded to other measures to treat an acute attack."

Dr Daniel Silverstein of Patients Medical recently claimed oxygen therapy can act as a jumpstart for the body's natural healing processes as it enables cells to regenerate.
