Oxygen therapy 'can heal stubborn ulcers'

Oxygen therapy could be an effective treatment for people suffering from stubborn wounds such as diabetic ulcers, it has been claimed.

Writing for the Press Democratic, Martin Espinoza noted the method can be beneficial to patients as it helps inundate the body with oxygen.

The journalist observed the lower atmospheric pressure takes high concentrations of the substance to the blood stream and skin tissue.

Dr Daniel Rose, medical director of the Healdsburg District Hospital's wound care programme, told Mr Espinoza how the treatment fully works.

He explained: "Oxygen stimulates the growth of new blood vessels into the wound [and] it increases the ability of your own body's white blood cells to kill infection."

The body's cells are also stimulated to produce more collagen, he added.

This is Gloucestershire recently reported oxygen therapy has bettered the lives of hundreds of people who suffer from multiple sclerosis and used the example of the MS Therapy Centre.
