Oxygen therapy 'can be ideal hangover cure'

People can use oxygen therapy as a hangover cure, as one expert said that oxygen deprivation due to alcohol is bad for health.

The Times said that even small amounts of alcohol can impact on sleep, leading to slower breathing and a more swollen airway.

It added that this makes problems like snoring and sleep apnoea more likely, leading to health problems. The newspaper stated: "Oxygen deprivation is bad for your sleep and your health generally."

People could use oxygen-enriched therapy to help recover from the deprivation and reduce their hangover.

Jessica Alexander, a spokesperson for the Sleep Council, told the newspaper: "Alcohol can mean that sleep is no longer refreshing, because the brain can't perform the normal restorative job it does during the night."

The comment follows advice from Dr Paul Stillman, a member of the Expert Group on Hydration, who told the Independent that oxygen therapy can allow people to function better.
