Oxygen therapy 'can aid a host of ailments'

Breathing oxygen-enriched air can help to treat a whole host of ailments, it has been noted.
Mathaba reports that oxygen therapy can help patients with a range of medical conditions, including diabetics with wounds, people with crush injuries and those suffering from radiation tissue damage.
Furthermore, it can also be used to treat decompression illness, the publication states.
Patients will usually start to notice the benefits of oxygen treatment after approximately 15 sessions of breathing oxygen-enriched air for 90 minutes, it adds.
Dr Tarun Sahini, senior consultant at the Apollo Indraprastha Hospital in New Delhi, recently told Thaindian News that the therapy is particularly effective in terms of healing wounds.
"Oxygen plays a pivotal role in almost every major component of wound healing. Increasing the wound oxygen tension/pressure enhances the healing process," he said.
Those with diabetes may find the treatment particularly useful, Dr Sahini added, as a poor supply of oxygen can often stop their wounds from healing.
