Oxygen therapy becoming more widespread?

Oxygen therapy may be becoming a more widespread treatment as many medical centres appear to be adding oxygen equipment to their facilities.

Writing for UpNorthLive.com, Lauren Amstutz noted one such institute is Munson Medical Centre, which has opened up a new advanced wound centre.

It means residents do not have to leave the local area to get help and Dr Matthew Smith, medical director at the organisation, said the treatment is often favoured by diabetics who suffer wounds on their legs because of their condition.

"With just diabetic patients alone, there [are] from 500 to 1,000 patients in the area that could benefit from this technology," he explained.

The expert added oxygen therapy has helped reduce amputations by as much as 50 per cent.

Reporting recently for the Press Democratic, Martin Espinoza observed oxygen equipment can help heal stubborn ulcers by taking high concentrations of the substance to the blood stream and skin tissue.
