Oxygen therapy administered following house fire

Oxygen therapy has been used to treat a man who suffered smoke inhalation following a fire at his home.

The 32-year-old man, who lives in Tanyfron, Wrexham, was rescued by fire fighters after a neighbour heard a smoke alarm at the property, the BBC reports.

Paramedics administered precautionary oxygen therapy to the victim in an effort to return his breathing back to normal.

Andy Robb, from North Wales Fire and Rescue Service, said the smoke alarm had played a crucial role in ensuring the person's survival.

He remarked that if it was not for the detector, "this man could easily have slept through the fire, risking tragic consequences by breathing in the smoke".

A second alarm in the man's hallway had set off as the one fitted in his living room was not working, the serviceman explained.

Oxygen equipment was recently used to revive a young boy who had almost drowned in a five-gallon bucket of water in Colorado, the US.
