Oxygen 'reduces effect of hangovers'

Increased levels of oxygen have been found to reduce the impact of hangovers, a new study has revealed.

Published in academic journal Alcoholism: Clinical and Experimental Research, researchers found oxygen has a positive effect on the severity of hangovers, the Independent reports.

"Enhanced dissolved oxygen concentrations in alcohol may reduce alcohol-related side effects," researchers at Chungnam National University in South Korea stated.

They noted that when healthy subjects were administered with oxygen, the metabolism increased and alcohol was eliminated from the body more quickly.

Stephen Katowitz, who runs a company which supplies oxygen to bars in the US, recently told ninemsnhealth.com that breathing oxygen-enriched air has a multitude of benefits.

He said headaches can be eliminated and the aches and pains associated with hangovers can be overcome by people undergoing oxygen therapy.

Additionally, the immune system can become stronger, the metabolism is able to speed up and concentration can be improved by undergoing this treatment.
