Oxygen news: Reduce hangovers by changing drinking habits

Although portable oxygen is one product that can be used to aid recovery from a hangover, there is only one way to prevent them happening in the first place, an expert has stated.

Dr Jacqueline Gerhart, a family doctor at the University of Wisconsin's Health's DeForest-Windsor Clinic, responded to a letter sent to a local news provider to give tips on avoiding headaches after celebrating this year.

It is not possible to stop your body from metabolising alcohol altogether, the specialist wrote in the Wisconsin State Journal, explaining this is how symptoms like nausea, diarrhoea and grogginess are caused.

However, there are responsible ways to drink in order to reduce the effects of a hangover, including spacing beverages out over a night and splitting them up with a glass of water between each wine, beer or spirit.

Those who find they have drunk too much at this year's Christmas party could use oxygen to help them get back to normal, as natural health professional at the Naturopathy Institute in Germany Maren Schmidt recently told Deutsche Presse-Agentur headaches are caused by the body using up lots of the gas to break down alcohol so refuelling can help relieve this symptom.
