Oxygen news: Experts warn exercisers not to go too far too fast

Following an unseasonably warm March, many Brits will have their fingers crossed the fair weather will continue throughout summer so they can get out in the open air to do some exercise.
But those who have picked up portable oxygen to keep them energised while they complete fitness routines may also need to heed the advice of experts, who have warned people not to try and go too far too fast.
Speaking to Reuters, personal trainer and former Olympic sprinter Samantha Clayton warned people who have set their sights high to compete in a marathon this year not to throw themselves into the deep-end too quickly and to ensure they are doing the right kinds of exercise.
"People think if they're generally fit, they can just get on with it. But specific training is important. The only way to become a better runner is to run," she stated.
"If now you run three miles a week on [a] treadmill and you want to run a marathon, you need to set really small increments to allow your body to build up to the additional mileage," Ms Clayton explained.
Lashaun Dale, group fitness manager at gym-chain Equinox, added circuit training is useful for sport activities, Reuters reported.
He told the news provider this kind of routine allows individuals to focus on one muscle group at a time, reminding individuals they should think about what parts of their body they are going to use.
The specialist pointed out, for instance, that a bowler needs to strengthen the tissue that helps them to lift their arm backwards in readiness of their pitch, as well as the muscles they need to throw.
Celebrity trainer Jackie Warner recently recommended in Shape magazine that exercisers ready for some strenuous activity try doing two minutes of cardiovascular exercise between sets of a resistance workout - a technique called cardio acceleration.
