Oxygen news: Expect to ache after changing exercise regime

Even seasoned athletes feel pain when they change exercise regime, it has been claimed by one expert, who spoke about the causes and effects of Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS).
Ellis Taylor, senior physiotherapist and director of physiotherapy, injury management and massage therapy provider Tatami Health, explained the aching individuals feel after working out is the result of tissue damage.
He explained this kind of trauma to the body will always cause the release substances like histamine and bradykinin, causing inflammation and pain, but this is not serious unless it continues for more than three days.
If aching persists for longer than this, it is important to be checked out by a physiotherapist of healthcare professional, Mr Taylor advised.
"DOMS will only occur after someone has done a bout of exercise that is outside the realms of their normal activities," he stated.
Fortunately, those dreading the prospect of jumping into a cold bath to get through the aching may not need to put themselves through such discomfort, as a recent Cochrane review into the effectiveness of this measure found little evidence to suggest it reduces muscle pain and fatigue any more than a immersing the body in hot water does.
People looking for new ideas to help them recover from strenuous exercise may find portable oxygen helpful, as it can be used by athletes to reenergise after a long workout.
