Oxygen news: Exercise 'simplest way to reduce stress'

Doing exercise is the simplest way people can reduce their stress levels, an expert has said.

Neil Shah, director of non-profit making organisation The Stress Management Society, explained the body is primed for physical activity when under strain.

It is expecting to either have to run or go into combat due to the fight or flight response, which sees adrenaline levels increase when people are anxious.

Giving the body what it is anticipating can be the easiest way to lower stress levels, Mr Shah stated.

"I'm not necessarily talking about going to the gym and pumping iron," he said, adding: "Even if it's something simple like ... going for a walk ... [it] can really help to reduce the impact of stress."

Using portable oxygen is another way people can cope with anxiety and it may be helpful for those considering heeding Mr Shah's advice to take deep, slow breaths when under strain.

Simon Cowell certainly appears to find it useful for this purpose, with a report in the Sun recently citing a source who declared the music mogul carries the product everywhere to help keep him calm.
