Oxygen news: 'Do nothing' to relieve stress

Many people could be feeling stressed after the festive period, with the start of January often said to be one of the most depressing times of the year and individuals possibly looking at a Christmas-shaped hole in their bank accounts.
Those suffering from strain in this way may find it easier to cope using portable oxygen, to keep them revitalised and improve their energy levels, as well as some tips from nutritional therapist and yoga teacher from de-stressyourlife.com Charlotte Watts.
One piece of advice she gave to those feeling under pressure is to make sure they are allowing themselves to completely relax now and again, explaining many people find this concept "confusing".
"People are so used to actually doing, doing, doing and it is really hard for the body to just keep running at a really high level," the specialist stated.
Often individuals find it difficult to get their heads around the idea of doing nothing at all, Ms Watts noted, but she added the concept is criticial.
"It is really important for the body to be able to relax - that's when we recover, that's when stress hormones are able to come down again and that's when the body can heal and recuperate things like muscle and brain cells," she explained.
Another tip she gave for reducing stress levels is spontaneous movement, while those who want to lose weight after the Christmas period were advised to turn their central heating down and get used to feeling cold, as this will improve their metabolism.
Steve Finnemore, specialist message therapist, recently recommended people put time aside to do something they enjoy like having a bath or reading a book if they are feeling emotionally strained.
He also suggested going for walks, echoing the advice of many experts who have argued
exercising is a good activity individuals can do to help them cope under pressure.
