Oxygen equipment 'could keep you thin'

Individuals who use oxygen equipment to get a better night's sleep may also be reducing the likelihood of them putting on weight.

New research carried out by Kristen Hairston from Wake Forest University School of Medicine in North Carolina has shown that sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnoea due to excess work may promote obesity, the Irish Independent reports.

Dr Hairston conducted a five-year study that revealed young adults who fail to get the recommended amount of shut-eye are at an increased risk of gaining abdominal weight.

Those who snooze for less than six-to-seven hours a night could also see their visceral fat and body mass index swell, she noted.

The researcher added weight gain is prompted by a rise in the levels of the stress hormone cortisol.

Sleepwear firm Goodnighties recently affirmed people are more likely to experience a more pleasant and less-interrupted nap when they're body has been enriched with oxygen.
