Oxygen equipment 'a key part' of new medical centre

Oxygen equipment has been credited for helping to prevent the need for amputations at one medical facility in the US.
The Omaha World Herald reports two key features of the Advanced Wound Center at Jennie Edmundson Hospital are a pair of hyperbaric oxygen chambers.
These are used to treat patients for up to two hours per session and help wounds heal quicker thanks to the positive effects of pure oxygen, which contains small molecules that reach damaged tissue faster than oxygen found in regular air.
Over 150 patients have received treatment at the centre following its opening six months ago and its programme director John Meyer said at least four amputations have been prevented over the six-month period.
Among those who come for treatment at the facility are those who have suffered trauma as a result of car crashes, as well as individuals with bone infections and diabetic foot ulcers.
The Green Bay Gazette recently reported an oxygen tank has helped one woman treat a wound that had not properly healed 20 years after she underwent an operartion.
