Oxygen-enriched air 'can increase strength and endurance'

In order for athletes to reach new levels of strength and endurance, they must be able to increase the output of work done with each session and oxygen-enriched air can aid them greatly in this.
According to The Potential Ergogenic Effects of Training While Breathing Oxygen Enriched Air study by Carl Lanore, carried out on behalf of Super Human Radio, it is particularly effective for those who take part in aerobic training.
Runners who train in hyperoxic conditions can exercise with greater intensity for longer periods of time, with the time to exhaustion extended by 38 per cent.
Strength athletes can also benefit, with oxygen-enriched air helping to reduce the oxygen debt and lactate accumulation which hinders their ability to workout for longer.
"This allows individuals to perform those last additional repetitions not possible under normoxic conditions," Mr Lanore concluded.
The health benefits of breathing oxygen-enriched air were recently highlighted by Carmel Aaron, a qualified biologist, who told the Sun-Times that it can be of particular benefit to athletes and those whose health has been at risk.
