Oxygen canisters 'are the best option for COPD sufferers

There are many ways that people with chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD) can consume home oxygen, however, a medical expert has suggested that oxygen canisters are the best way to take it.

Dr Norman Edelman, chief medical officer of the American Lung Association and a professor of medicine at Stony Brook University, told everydayhealth.com that there are a variety of appliances available for patients to use.

Oxygen tanks, cylinders and concentrators are just a few examples, with the latter the most convenient piece of apparatus.

"The easiest thing to use is an oxygen concentrator, which is an electrically-driven device that concentrates oxygen in the air," Dr Edelman told the news provider.

He added that many oxygen canisters are portable and rechargeable, making them even more convenient.

Dr Richard Casaburi told delegates at the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation annual meeting that breathing oxygen-enriched air is one of the most effective therapies for those who suffer from COPD.
