Norfolk village awarded £500,000 to tackle pollution problems

The Norfolk village of Reepham has been given £500,000 to help reduce pollution and improve air quality.
The area is one of ten which have secured funding from the government's Low Carbon Communities Challenge which is designed to cut carbon emissions across the country.
Five years ago, the village's emissions, per capita, were 48 per cent above the national average but this has since been reduced, although locals may still want to invest in a portable oxygen canister to ensure they are breathing clean air.
Energy and climate minister Joan Ruddock said the ten successful villages will now invest in projects to improve things further for those who require portable oxygen.
"The ten winning projects will now spend the money on things like community wind turbines, solar panels, heat pumps, insulation or green transport projects to cut emissions," he added.
A briefing paper from the National Assembly's research department recently revealed that Wales needs to reduce carbon emissions by 10.5 per cent by the end of next year to meet its own targets, WalesOnline.co.uk reported.
