MPs backing oxygen tanks on flights

A number of MPs are currently campaigning for people to be able to take their own oxygen tanks onto an airline, after a survey showed that they were rarely supplied by airlines.

Nick Aigner MP tabled the early day motion on the issue, with almost 250 other politicians joining the cause to allow people access to oxygen on the flights.

Recent research from Pulmonary Hypertension Association UK found that less than a quarter of airlines offered free supplementary oxygen on flights, while a quarter had no supplementary oxygen at all.

Some companies did provide oxygen but the cost of the use of it varied from £50 to £500 per trip.

The MPs are calling for people to be able to take their own oxygen tanks on flights if they have lung conditions or other problems which require the treatment.

Carmel Aaron, a qualified biologist, recently told the Sun-Times that the use of oxygen tanks is beneficial for many groups of people.
