MP calls for action on pollution in Port Talbot

The levels of pollution in Port Talbot are unacceptable and a local MP has backed the European Commission's decision to refuse the UK extra time to achieve its anti-pollution targets.
Aberavon MP Dr Hywel Francis stated the quality of air in the area is something which needs addressing urgently as they are too high, which could encourage some to invest in a portable oxygen canister to carry around with them.
As well as safeguarding the region for future generations, taking strong action will benefit those living in the area at the moment.
"I have always believed that improving air quality in Port Talbot must be our highest priority locally
It is essential that Port Talbot ceases to be a 'hot spot' breaking air-quality limits," Dr Francis said.
West Lothian council is urging members of the public to report drivers who sit in traffic jams with their engines running, with the council writing to the culprits to point out the dangers of what they are doing to the environment.
