Increased oxygen 'can help people with hangovers function better'

Taking a few breaths from an oxygen canister can help people with hangovers function better, according to one professional.

Dr Paul Stillman, a member of the Expert Group on Hydration, told the Independent that there are several supposed remedies designed to cure the pain of a hangover, some of which work while others do not.

Some of the proposed cures include water, caffeine, berocca , taurine, cactus and breathing oxygen-enriched air.

After taking a few breaths of oxygen in a can, those suffering with headaches and other effects from drinking too much alcohol will notice the difference.

"This will increase the oxygen saturation and allow you to function better," he told the newspaper.

Public health minister Gillian Merron recently told the Times that caffeine and exercise, which are widely believed to help cure hangovers, can actually make people feel worse, which could encourage people to invest in home oxygen equipment instead.
