How older people can complement a running regime for weight management

Raising oxygen levels through cardiovascular activities like running is crucial for effective weight management.

The challenge is particularly difficult for older people as their metabolic rates are not as high as they were in their 20s.

Running can aid the speed of your metabolism so your body makes more efficient use of energy, but complementing this with a better diet is crucial to sculpting your ideal shape.

Diet and fitness expert Rosemary Conley advised cutting down on portion sizes to ensure you don't over indulge at mealtimes - which is important regardless of whether or not you are a runner.

She said: "We find that we can't eat as much as we did when we were perhaps in our 20s and 30s and still stay slim.

"So we really need to get out there and burn some extra calories to try to combat that, and we need to reduce our portion sizes as well as obviously eating healthily."
