Expert: Test children for sleep apnoea

Parents of children who have problems sleeping should make sure they are not suffering from sleep apnoea.
Pediatric specialist Dr Betsy Neahring told the Courier Press that many things can impact on a child's sleep rate, from obesity and poor growth to stress and worry about school work.
"A number of factors, including a child's weight, throat structure and muscle tone also can influence his risk of developing sleep apnoea," Dr Neahring added.
Children could use oxygen therapy to treat the condition without having to resort to medication.
"Overweight children and teens may be more likely to suffer from sleep apnoea and losing weight can help their symptoms improve," the doctor told the source.
Signs of having sleep apnoea include children being restless in the day, hyperactive and appearing tired.
A Japanese study has recently shown that oxygen therapy can help people with sleep apnoea and improve the condition of their slumber.
