Drivers fined for driving tired

Lorry drivers should think about using oxygen therapy to keep them alert as a national campaign launches to tackle dangerous driving in commercial vehicles.
Last week police in Essex checked 38 vehicles and found plenty of drivers risking tiredness by taking inadequate breaks, the Yellow Advertiser reports.
The police issued penalty notices totalling more than £3,000 and ordered drivers to rest before resuming driving.
Oxygen therapy could help drivers on long journeys stay alert and awake, which could prevent accidents from occurring.
Road safety charity IAM recently launched its ten-year road safety scheme which aims to improve driver behaviour in support of the United Nations' initiative to reduce death and injury on roads.
IAM said that the vast majority of crashes are caused by human error and lapses in concentration.
At the time of the launch, IAM chief executive Simon Best said: "Cars and roads are getting safer so it's time to concentrate on the driver by improving their skills and behaviour."
