Driver in court for allegedly falling asleep at the wheel

It is well-known that oxygen can keep drivers alert and awake while driving, so perhaps more drivers should take advantage of its benefits.
A lorry driver has appeared in Dumfries Sheriff Court charged with driving without taking a break – which led him to collide with a motorway sign which read: "Tiredness can kill... take a break", the Evening Times reports.
The court alleges that the driver drove carelessly, fell asleep, failed to keep his lorry under proper control and caused it to leave the motorway, which damaged about 70 metres of fencing and the illuminated road sign.
Lorry drivers were also reminded about the benefits of oxygen to keeping them alert while driving after it was revealed that drivers in Essex were fined by police for not taking adequate breaks.
The Yellow Advertiser reported recently that police issued penalty notices totalling more than £3,000 and ordered drivers to rest before resuming driving.
