Did Fernando Torres use oxygen equipment to recover from injury?

Fernando Torres may have used oxygen equipment to help him feature in the Fifa World Cup final.

The Liverpool forward struggled with a knee injury throughout the tournament and it appears he utilised oxygen to help him overcome the problem, according to the Bleacher Report.

Commenting on the match, which saw Spain pitted against the Netherlands, the source noted in regards to Torres: "Rumours that he spent the last three days largely in an oxygen chamber at the Spanish base in Potchefstroom appear to be true."

And it seems the method may have worked, as the forward managed to get on to the pitch after coming on as a substitute for fellow attacker David Villa as the contest at the Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg went into extra time.

Torres' team ended the match victorious - thanks to a one-goal win - and the country celebrated becoming world champions for the very first time.
