Dr Stoller, medical director of the Hyperbaric Oxygen Clinic of Sacramento, explains featherweight champion Urijah Faber used the treatment to help heal a broken hand last year.
"Oxygen accelerates the body's ability to repair itself and in many cases allows for a healing that would not have been possible without the [treatment]," he states.
Dr Stoller explains that breathing oxygen-enriched air is becoming increasingly popular with many professional athletes.
Physiotherapist Sammy Margo recently told CNN that oxygen therapy was one of the treatments that was suggested for David Beckham following his operation to mend his snapped Achilles tendon.
