Belfast 'has elevated levels of nitrogen oxide'

Those who live in Belfast may want to invest in a portable oxygen concentrator after new research showed the city has elevated levels of nitrogen oxide in the air.

According to the Air Quality Monitoring Report, prepared by the Department of the Environment and district councils, areas of Newtownabbey and Newry have the same problem.

While overall air quality in Northern Ireland has improved in recent years, there is still some work to be done in the aforementioned cities, which could encourage people there to explore the benefits of pure oxygen.

Environment minister Edwin Poots, said: "The link between air quality and health is well known. Clean air is essential for our health and wellbeing. By reducing air pollution, we can reduce illness and premature death."

Figures recently obtained by the Edinburgh Evening News showed that parts of the Scottish capital have levels of pollution higher than those set out in European Union guidelines.
