Be aware of driving bugbears

Motorists up and down the country have provided greater insight into the activities of their fellow drivers that can really get under their skin.

Research carried out as part of the latest AA-Populus poll revealed littering is the top annoyance for drivers, with 34 per cent of respondents placing this behaviour as among their top frustrations.

Meanwhile, low-moving caravans, large groups of both cyclists and motorcyclists, individuals parking in an inconsiderate manner, dawdling or lost drivers, sightseers stopping without consideration for others, motorists playing loud music and overloaded vehicles that give no visibility to what is going on behind were also highlighted as serious frustrations for many road users.

Travellers also going too slow or hogging lanes meant for overtaking are also significant frustrations many people face on a daily basis.

AA president Edmund King commented: "It is interesting that some motorists find anything that slows them down an irritant, whether slow caravans or groups of cyclists.

"All road users need to show consideration for fellow road users whether on two wheels, four wheels, six wheels or even horse legs. Common courtesy and consideration on both sides can improve road safety and reduce road rage this summer."

He added that there is growing support for tougher punishments for those individuals who have been caught littering on the UK's roads, as this behaviour not only makes a mess of the nation's beautiful countryside, but also presents a serious hazard to the Highways Agency staff that have to go around cleaning up after them.

Anyone wishing to boost their levels of concentration when driving might like to consider investing in portable oxygen equipment that can help them to relax and keep their mind focused on the task at hand.

However, it is important to remember that this type of equipment should never be used when the vehicle is in motion.
